What is a harp service?

A harp service normally starts with replacing the pedal felts. After changing the felts the pedals will need to be adjusted to ensure that they are working correctly. The mechanism can then be 'regulated', which means checking and adjusting each individual bridge pin and disc to make sure that every note is playing as it should. We can also replace the wire strings for you during a service.

How often should you service your harp?

It all depends on how much you play. If you play for a few hours every day you may need to service your harp every year. For most people I would recommend you service your harp every 3 years. If your pedal felts look worn and compressed or you have some unwanted buzzing sounds from some notes then this is a good sign that your harp needs a service. If you have any queries feel free to contact me.

How long does a service take?

A normal harp service can take around 3 to 5 hours to complete, however if your harp has not been serviced for some time it may take longer. I can give you a rough idea of the time needed when you call to discuss your next service.

Same day harp service

Most harps can be serviced on the same day that you bring it in. With antique harps I prefer to keep them in the workshop for a day to ensure that they have 'settled' after any work has been carried out. I also offer in house servicing for most harps (travel costs apply), however in house servicing is not possible for antique harps. Contact me to discuss your next harp service or to get a quote.
